Responsible production is about using resources with care. This includes raw materials, packaging, production processes and energy. Where relevant, we use available climate-related data to inform our priorities and support operational decision-making.
From 2023 to 2024 Polar Seafood Esbjerg reduced its plastic use by 14,196 kg as part of our work to reduce material consumption and improve the recyclability of our packaging.
Solar and wind power form a substantial part of Polar Seafood Denmark’s electricity supply. As an example, in the first half of 2026, our own solar generation and purchased electricity backed by Guarantees of Origin from solar and wind sources together accounted for 65.3% of total electricity consumption across our wholly owned Danish sites, including factories, offices and cold stores. Guarantees of Origin document that an equivalent amount of electricity has been generated from renewable sources. Electricity supplied through the grid is a mix of sources. Through our own solar generation and the purchase of Guarantees of Origin, we work to increase the documented share of electricity from renewable sources and reduce the market-based greenhouse gas emissions associated with our electricity consumption.
We engage in selected partnerships to strengthen our knowledge, gain new perspectives and explore opportunities for development. Polar Seafood Denmark is a partner company in Green Network, where we exchange knowledge and experience related to CSR and sustainability with other organisations. We also collaborate with the Danish Technological Institute, drawing on external specialist knowledge in relevant projects and areas of development.
Selected initiatives across Polar Seafood focus on making greater use of raw materials and by-products. In Denmark, fish by-products from selected sites are supplied to a zoo for use as animal feed. Under an agreement with Pandalus in Hanstholm, the company carries out inspections of land-frozen cod and receives the fish for further use. Elsewhere in the Group, we are investigating potential applications for shrimp shells.
Reducing plastic at Polar Seafood Esbjerg
At Polar Seafood Esbjerg, our prawn factory processes and packs cooked and peeled prawns for customers around the world. In 2024, the factory used 14,196 kg less plastic than in 2023 following changes to selected packaging solutions. The reduction is part of our ongoing work to reduce material use and improve our packaging.
