Cod, haddock and saithe
Most of our cod (Gadus morhua), haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus), and saithe (Pollachius virens) are caught in the Barents Sea. These species, all part of the cod family, are processed and frozen on board immediately after being caught. This ensures excellent freshness and firm meat.
Research for the future
Cod from Polar Seafood is caught in the Barents Sea, in East Greenland waters, and off the coast of West Greenland. In the fjords, fish are caught using net traps, which allow undersized fish to be released. Trawl fishing is only permitted in offshore areas, while coastal fish are mainly caught with gillnets or longlines. Polar Seafood’s fishery in the Norwegian part of the Barents Sea obtained MSC certification in May 2015 for these species. Safeguarding ocean resources is a core part of our DNA, and we actively participate in research projects to ensure the necessary knowledge about fish stocks.
Delicate mild flavour
The fish is characterized by its white, juicy meat and is relatively low in fat. It has a mild flavour and can vary in firmness and sweetness depending on the species.
